YOUTH PROGRAMS SPECIAL EVENTS

Healthy Youth Day & Summer Camp Expo

Join us for our
5th Annual Healthy Youth Day & Summer Camp Expo at Patrick Henry Mall Saturday, April 13th, 2019 from 1:00 pm-4:00 pm.  It is our mission to promote a healthy lifestyle for all—especially for the youth of Newport News.  Healthy Youth Day will attract citizens across the city and engage youth and parents in healthy activities, from food preparation to fun fitness. In addition, we will showcase all summer camp options, programs, and events offered by our department. We will have a gymnastics obstacle course, a tennis demonstration, proper exercise techniques, and many other exciting fitness demonstrations. Representatives from City departments and agencies will provide information about their programs and services.  Come out, do a little shopping and see what we have to offer!

Kickin’ for a Cause
- is a Youth Programs community service initiative and a fundraiser for charity.  This began as “Hoops 4 Hope” in 2006 and directly supports our mission of building social character in our participants.  This annual giving campaign allows us to teach our participants about philanthropy and how important it is to give back to your community.

Donation collections will begin at each Youth Program site beginning on  April 8th and ending on May 3rd.  Donations can be made in the form of coins or bills.  Unfortunately, we are unable to collect checks or process credit card donations.

Parents Night Out
This is a great way for parents to rekindle the flame while giving their kids a safe, fun environment to play in for the evening. Our various locations host PNO's at least once a month during the school year and they run from 6:30 pm-9:30 pm and have a range of activities from arts and crafts, sports games, and movies! Dinner is included with the price.

Spring Fling
-
This event runs in April and is hosted at the Brittingham-Midtown and Denbigh Community Centers. The cost is $22/day if registered in advance or $27/day if registered the day of the program. The event has daily programming activities consisting of recreation, creative thinking, and more so that your child can be consumed with fun during their spring break. This program is geared towards consistent activity so that down time is kept to a minimum and the brain is on high alert for all of the fantastic fun that takes place on a daily basis. The program runs from 6:00 am-6:30 pm.

Summer Camps-

Youth Programs consolidates during the summer and runs roughly half the locations that we do during the school year. However, we also extend our hours to a full day of care! We'll make the days go by so fast your kids will be back in school before you know it. We continue to do everything that you have come to expect from our programs including weekly themed activities, sports and recreation, and leisure activities. Making sure to keep the 'summer' in our name, we also have a host of field trips to keep the fun moving along. We know that you have options during the summer; but, we know you'll love our program! Come check us out!
